How do I notify the CPC of the death of the (co-)holder of a foreign account?
There are two options:
- The account remains active, but in the name of the heir(s): In this case, one of the heirs must notify the CPC of the closure of the account in the name of the deceased. This heir, acting as the authorised representative, must submit the closure/decumulation form to the CPC, filling in his/her/their own details in box 2 (authorised representative) and signing it. The form must be filed along with a double-sided copy of the heir’s identity card and a death certificate.
In addition, all heirs must notify the CPC of the transfer of the account to themselves, in accordance with the procedure to report the opening of a new foreign account.
- The account is closed: In this case, one of the heirs must notify the CPC of the closure of the account in the name of the deceased. This heir, acting as the authorised representative, must sign and submit the closure/decumulation form, filling in his/her own details in box 2 (authorised representative). The form must be filed along with a doubled-sided copy of the heir’s identity card and a death certificate.
In both cases, the notification to the CPC can be made via the online application.
