Feb 2014 - Conference for the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the European Monetary Institute
January 2014 marked the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the European Monetary Institute. As its first President, Alexandre Lamfalussy, was a Belgian citizen, the National Bank of Belgium organised, together with the European Central Bank, a conference, "Progress through crisis? Conference for the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the European Monetary Institute", on 12 February 2014.
The objective of this conference, with ECB President Mario Draghi as keynote speaker, was not only backward-looking, to mark this anniversary and honour Alexandre Lamfalussy, but also forward-looking, to draw lessons from the crisis of the 1990s for the future of EMU.
