Departure of Mrs Marcia De Wachter, Director of the National Bank of Belgium
On 31 October 2018, Marcia De Wachter is ending her term as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Bank of Belgium.
With a career spanning three decades, Marcia De Wachter was a member of the Board of Directors of the National Bank of Belgium and has served as its Vice-Governor, Secretary and Spokeswoman. She was alternate at the Governing Council and the General Council of the European Central Bank, member of the European Union’s Economic and Financial Committee and alternate on the Bank for International Settlements’ Board of Directors.
For fourteen years, she was a Director at the Antwerp Management School. She started her career as Economics scientific scholar and lecturer in academic institutions in Europe and the United States.
As executive Director of the National Bank of Belgium, Mrs De Wachter has been responsible for strategy, budget control, information technology, human resources, currency in circulation, prudential supervision and oversight, statistics and microeconomic information. She is vice-Chair of the High Council for Employment and was expert to the Board of Directors of the National Accounts Institute, Board member of the Inter-federal Institute for Statistics and member of the Belgian Institute for Public Finance. She has also held mandates at the High Council of Finance and has been member of the Banking, Finance and Insurance Commission’s Management Committee and of the Protection Fund for Deposits and Financial Instruments.
